Taiwan Trip Day 2
Written at Thursday, April 07, 2011 | back to top

31 March 2011 - Thursday

Taiwan Trip Day 2
::Taipei::

woke up at 7am, and we only have 50 minutes for 2 people to bathe finished, wash up, pack up our belongings first and then leave the room to have our hotel breakfast at level 1.

the breakfast served was pretty good. but we have to eat it fast as our bus will be leaving at 8.30am. and we still have to go back up to our room and bring our luggage down.

breakfast time!

the morning looks

my breakfast

after breakfast, we made our way quickly back to our room to do last minute checking of the room and grab our luggage out to the lobby area.

and before we left our first hotel, time to take a group picture for day 2.

the start of Day 2

outside the hotel

so for our day 2 tour, we were brought to one of the main attraction in Taipei, Tamshui Fisherman's Wharf. It is a multi-purpose leisure fishing port developed by the New Taipei City Government. There are magnificent floating piers and a spacious park, with a bridge in the shape of a boat spanning across the harbor and a wooden path stretching over 300 meters at the waterfront.

it was a short 15 minutes bus ride from our hotel, and here we are at the Tamshui Fisherman's Wharf. the main focus of this place was actually the Lover's Bridge. we were only given 30 minutes to walk around the place, as for us.. time to spam pictures all the way to the other side of the bridge.

Pose with BIG ACTION!!

the wind is so strong!!

a better shot xD

and before we left the place

looking for our bus..

back to our bus and start on our next journey to our next location. it was a 1 hour 15 minutes bus journey to Yehliu Geopark, we spent most of the time inside the bus sleeping, that's the only thing we can do if we want the time to past faster.

anyway, we reached Yehliu Geopark at 10.30am, and we waited for our tour guide to give us our Geopark ticket at NT$50 (S$2.10). we do not need to pay as it was already included in our travel package. and the main highlight of this place was the Queen's Head.

Yehliu Geopark

their mascot?!

Queen's Head II
not the real Queen's Head. but a smaller version of it

the place was full of beautiful scenery

the real Queen's Head we spotted from far.
and it was surrounded by lots of China people.

obey the rules please.
NO SPITTING!!

me with Ginnette ^^

Statue of Mr. Lin Tien Chen

it is a reminder of his brave action in March 1964, when he tried to help a student who helped a student who visited Yehliu and was swept to sea by the waves unfortunately, both lost their lives.

salute to his brave acts.

and the queue got longer and longer.
we have to make it there as soon as possible.

like nice

finally, we reached the Queen's Head queueing point. the queue was long, and those horrible China people behind kept on pushing me. the China people infront of us was like making too much noise. and we were stuck with all the China people, feeling so horrible!!

but no matter what, we still have to endure for it. we came all the way here for the Queen's Head. how can we leave just like that without a picture with the Queen's Head? hahaha

Queen's head finally...
the main purpose!!~

queueing up to take picture with the Queen's Head

finally, a group photo with the Queen's Head

the overview of the Geopark

and that's the end of our tour at Yehliu Geopark

before we left the place, there was this street selling Yehliu local products and some souvenirs. never really go for their local foods, we crowd around the shop looking for souvenirs instead. Ginnette and me bought some keychains back for our Feriae team members.

Yehliu local products

Good Bye, Yehliu Geopark

and now, back to the bus at 11.45am, and time to head off to Jiu Fen. finally a place to let us do some shopping. haven't really start spending our money yet. heh.

we reached Jiu Fen at 12.30pm, the tour guide brought us to a local products shop to order their muah chee first. i bought 3 packets of muah chee for NT$250 (S$10.50), we were asked to leave the things we bought at the shop first, and collect it at the end of the day.

after buying, it was free & easy for us finally. we were only given 2 hours to shop, and enough of it, time to chiongggg!!!

Jiu Fen

sample of muah chee!!

next, we decided to have our lunch first before going for shopping. and of course, Braised Pork Rice 鲁肉饭 is a must-eat in Taiwan. we bought 4 bowls of it at NT$25 (S$1.05) each, 2 bowls of Fishball Soup at NT$40 (S$1.70) each, and 1 plate of chicken at NT$150 (S$6.30) to share. the foods sold there were incredibly cheap, less than $2 can eat a bowl of rice, like wow!~

omg lol. overall, not a bad experience, just that the finding for seats part was pretty hard. we have to squeeze and share tables with others.

the place where we had our lunch

OUR DELICIOUS LUNCH!

and after lunch, time to venture around the place. it's just like a street market selling all sorts of things. and looks like everywhere was selling that smelly tofu, have to hold on our breath and faster walked away from the place.

the street at Jiu Fen

Jiu Fen is located at high-up mountain

this shop we spent most our money inside

hahaha. this shop sold alot unique and funny packaging sweets, candies and chocolates. the best place to shop for souvenirs for friends. i bought lots of chocolate as a gifts from there xD

anyway, we shop until forgot about the time. Ginnette and me were the last few to meet back at the entrance there, and time to board the bus at 2.20pm, off to our next location at Wu Fen Pu.

WuFenPu, best known as wholesale garment market. it was said to be a huge market which sells the most fashionable and cheapest clothes and accessories in Taipei.

and we reached Wufenpu at 3.15pm, so looking forward for all the shopping there. however, we were kind of disappointed there. nothing sold there caught our eyes, and it was not that cheap actually. the price was sort of considered expensive to us =/ and so we ended up not buying anything, left the place empty-handed.

Wufenpu Fashion Area

one whole stretch of clothing warehouse market

ended up taking pictures with the street xD

lol, and back to bus at 4.45pm, heading to Ximending. the place where most youngsters love to hang around at. it's like a shopping paradise there, and we have no idea on where to start first =D

but the time given was so short, only 1.5 hours. so rush, every shop we went in, we have to keep on looking at the time, in order not to overshot the time given.

went to a few accessories shop, shoe shop, etc. finally, bought a few things there. and not to forget, the very well-known Ah Zong Mee Sua that we have to try it in Taipei.

at the junction of Ximending.

Ah Zong Mee Sua
we bought 2 bowls to share - takeaway please! lol

the night street of Ximending.

and not to forget, we have to hunt for the KOI which was originated from Taiwan. we have no idea whether there is any outlet here, so ended up using our handphone and started hunting for free wi-fi here.

a pretty tough process as the wi-fi is either password-protected or simply too weak. i have to keep on hunting and hunting. and once i found it, and get connected in, i have to stay in that position and not to move abit as the connection is very very low.

wi-fi detected!
browsing through the map of Ximending for KOI!!
but there wasn't any nearby, sigh!

badges selling on the street. like so many!!!!
i bought 13 of it xD

hah!! time to go back. this time round we were early, the bus was late instead. while waiting for others and the bus, we stood down there and sample on our Ah Zong Mee Sua. smell so nice!

Ah Zong Mee Sua

smiled with the mee sua

we ate it on the bus xD

time to move on again. this time round to Shilin Night Market. more good food to come, it was now food paradise!! so hungry, we bought alot of small small foods to share together.

TIME TO SPEND AND SPAM ON FOODS!!!

Shilin Night Market

Oyster Omelette @ NT$50 (S$2.10)

us, with one plate of Oyster Omelette.
all of us don't eat Oyster, except Lisa LOL.

the change!!

XXL Crispy Chicken @ NT$55 (S$2.30)

very long queue

the chicken was bigger than our face.
so crispy and nice!!!

Sausage with sausage @ NT$50 (S$2.10)

Biscuit with biscuit @ NT$45 (S$1.90)

Lisa was very keen on finding the bookshop which she came during her previous visit to Taiwan. that bookshop sold alot very pretty notebooks and so on.

so based on her memory and map, we finally found the bookshop which she was talking about. but we were like quite far away from the Shilin Night Market.

right ahead...

the stationery shop.

lol, as for me. i am still pretty insisted in looking for my Koi, and so i told them to take their time at the stationery shop, while i walked further down to try my luck whether can i find my Koi.

and i finally found it after walking a few streets down. the original Koi in Taiwan - 50 winds. i quickly walked back to the stationery shop to ask whether they wanted any drinks, and this time round Ginnette went back with me to order the drinks. Lisa and Shalee will joined us shortly after they finished buying their notebooks.

50 嵐 bubble tea

MILK TEA is loved!!
my regular ice cream milk tea @ NT$45 (S$1.90)
omg, so much cheaper than Singapore

this time round we were seriously late. we quickly made our way back to the Shilin Night Market to meet the rest of the people. however, this time round we couldn't find our bus. after walking back and fro the place, our tour guide finally came out to look for us. lol.

we went back to the bus and everybody was already sitting inside waiting for us. we felt so bad and apologised immediately, didn't really tell them that we went far far away until we forgot about the time, we pretended we lost our way =/ hahaha

and finally, back to our hotel,  The Koos Suites. this was one of the best hotel so far, we were given the family suites. that means the 4 of us will be sleeping together. and it was an awesome big room for us.

The Koos Suites

lol, the lift kept on closing behind

our awesome big room
a hall, 2 bedrooms, 2 toilets, a dining area and a kitchen

time to pack our stuffs.
squeezed and reserved more space for newly bought items

after we finished packing with our things, we started spamming photos and posed with our milk tea xD

YAM SENG!!!
with our smelly feets xD

newly invented iFly pose LOL

it was 11.45pm, most probably sleeping time for the rest of the people. but for us, it was just the start of our free & easy journey. our target for tonight was the 24 hours bookstore. how do we get there? good question, take their  MRT xD

before we left

inside the lift

lol. we walked to our nearest MRT station which was the Beitou Station. luckily we were well-trained in Singapore on how to read MRT map. no matter how complicated it was, still an easy task to us xD

we have to transfer train from Beitou Station to Taipei Station and then Zhongshan Dunhua Station. hah, enough said, time to set off now at 12am!!! lol

we used the free MRT card given to us during the NATAS fair. at least, the card has some money inside, enough for us to take all the way to our destination.

MAPS!

enquiry at the counter for last train. tap card. off we go!

at Beitou...
train is coming, train is coming!

inside the train

Lisa and Shalee pretended to be reading the map
Ginnette and me pretended to be sleeping lol

reached Taipei Station now!!

toilet break

changed to Bannan Line

and reached Zhongshan Dunhua Station finally at 12.30am
map to show us where is our 24-hours bookstore

24-hours bookstore - eslite dun nan store

wow, huge bookstore.

and most of the books were in.... CHINESE!

we spent almost 2 hours inside the bookstore, like treating the place as library already lol. it's kind of funny to see those English book in Singapore became Chinese book in Taiwan. haha.

i felt very sleepy all of a sudden, i even dozed off while sitting on a stool there. anyway, we left the place at 2am and took a cab back to our hotel.

SO SLEEPY!
cab fare @ NT$350 (S$14.70)

bye bye yellow cab

all of a sudden, not that sleepy anymore. continued to do my packing as we have to leave the place early in the morning. and not to forget to display my souvenirs bought today xD

items bought @ Jiu Fen
mostly foods haha
